The goal of Hardly Hustle is to provide inspiration, drive and motivation in a 10 minute read or less. What you see is what you get. This is hot off the press without an editing team.
Rich Moyer is up. And...
In case you missed his story in 2020, you may want to start here first.
Rich Moyer: Founder/CEO of Hoppin
I am an entrepreneur, investor and franchisor. I invested in my first house at the age of 22 and started my first company at the age of 26. Since then, I have started, exited and learned (failed) in different investments and businesses. I am currently franchising Hoppin', a tech-forward taproom, across the country.
I also own Two Scoops Creamery, a homemade ice cream shop with 6 locations and 3 more opening in 2024 with two of my best friends.
Outside of these brick and mortar businesses I own a local media company in Charlotte, NC and invest in commercial real estate and a couple tech start-ups.
Since my last interview with Hardly Hustle I have spent most of my time focusing on franchising Hoppin'. We began franchising in September of 2022 and have franchisees opening in Dallas - TX, Nashville - TN, Fort Worth - TX, Arlington -VA, Matthews - NC, and existing locations in Rock Hill - SC, Charlotte - NC, and Greenville - SC.
We are looking for franchisees in the fastest growing cities in the US like Houston - TX, Austin - TX, Raleigh - NC, Tampa - FL, Denver - CO and more across the US.
I wouldn't change anything. Everything was true and current when I had that interview. Looking back to try and change the past only slows down seeing the future.

I brought on a fractional CMO for Hoppin'. Brooke Budke and Halle O'Neill with Momentum Brands. They were by far the best additional I made to any of my companies to help elevate Hoppin' not only on our marketing structure, strategy and organization but on many other franchising levels.
My work life balance has stay consistent with what I want it to be. Recently it has been more life than business as my wife and I welcomed first child to the world but I wouldn't trade these early weeks of family time for any amount of work/money.
I think the next year is going to be pretty ugly for the economy and businesses in general, so I am bullish on the opportunities to come both for investment purposes and learning experiences for my current brands. I believe the times coming will give us a lot of thoughts on how to be creative and adapt to a tough down market where people are not spending as much as they were.
There is no better tool than your phone. The ability to handle so much from the palm of your hand anywhere you go is a game changer for entrepreneurs. The tough part is knowing when to turn it off and be present.
The biggest life hack is having the right Perspective. I lost my brother at the young age of 2.5 years old from brain cancer. When you watch a 2 year old smile and light up a room while fighting the worst disease in the world you really start to put things into perspective.
The life we live is precious and if you are fortunate enough to wake up healthy in your own bed you do not have anything to complain about. Sure life isn't perfect for anyone but if you have the right perspective your happiness and success is guaranteed to change for the better.
