Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Maddix, I am 26-years old, and I am the creator behind Simply Things By Maddix. I started Simply Things By Maddix in 2020 when my internships were canceled due to the pandemic. Simply Things By Maddix is a lifestyle shop that offers apparel, stationery, tumblers, and more. From positive affirmations to faith-related sayings, there's something for everyone to love in our shop. Today, I run my business on the side of my full-time marketing career, and coaching cross country and track at a local high school.

What did it take/how did you get started?

I started Simply Things By Maddix in 2020 when my internships were canceled due to the pandemic. I needed marketing experience, so I opened an Etsy shop as a resume builder. After opening my Etsy shop, I discovered a passion for entrepreneurship, and from there, I focused on growing my business into what it is today. After about a year and a half of running my business on Etsy, I launched my own website, simplythingsbymaddix.com, and have been running my business from there ever since.

What does the future look like for you and your business?

In the future, I hope to run my business full-time. We are currently going through some major changes at Simply Things By Maddix, including a name change and a brand reboot. While I’m not giving away any details just yet, I’m excited about the future of Simply Things By Maddix.

What drives / motivates you on a daily basis?

What motivates me when it comes to running Simply Things By Maddix is the joy and happiness it brings to customers across the nation. Knowing that I can have a positive impact on others through my products is incredibly fulfilling. I have had the opportunity to grow a loyal customer base across the country, and they are the individuals who have helped create this amazing community. Their support, feedback, and enthusiasm inspire me every day to keep pushing forward and continue building a positive, meaningful business that they look forward to, from new products to behind-the-scenes moments and more.

What advice would you give someone interested in doing what you do?

Don’t be afraid to start. It’s not a 'what if,' it’s 'what’s the best that could happen?' Do your research and don’t be afraid to put your face to your business. People love authentic accounts, so be yourself, show your face, and create items you love.

What has been the hardest part of your business journey?

Balancing it with my full-time job and getting out of creator's rut.

How have you managed burnout thus far?

Eh, still working on that. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. :)

What are a few resources that you'd recommend?
